How can artificial intelligence (AI) help negotiators navigate the complexities of global climate diplomacy? In this interactive walk-in-session, Johannes Jacob and Robin Nowok, part of the German delegation, will introduce the latest version of “NegotiateCOP” – an AI-powered tool designed to assist users in navigating the immense and often fragmented landscape of UNFCCC submissions and decision texts. NegotiateCOP covers an extensive collection of official UNFCCC data, including more than 8,000 submissions from the Parties and over 950 decisions from the COP, CMP, and CMA. The tool makes this large and complex body of negotiation documents easier to search, explore and compare, helping users identify country positions and potential thematic alignments. NegotiateCOP is a joint initiative of the Data Labs of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), developed in close collaboration with negotiators from the Global South.
