Cities concentrate people, infrastructure, economic activity and investment, but also many of the risks associated with a changing climate. They are therefore places where climate impacts are felt particularly strongly, but also where planning, investment and practical interventions can translate climate ambition into concrete action. Using urban heat as a concrete climate challenge, this interactive training seminar will bring together municipal practitioners to exchange practical experience and jointly reflect on local adaptation. Stuttgart will present its current approach to tackling heat stress through the Climate Innovation Fund and forthcoming “Stuttgart Challenge”, and will bring a concrete challenge from its ongoing work into the session. A second city from the Connective Cities network will contribute its own experience with urban climate adaptation and heat action. Building on these inputs, the session will move into a structured peer-to-peer exchange centred on the challenge case presented by the City of Stuttgart. Drawing on their own municipal experience, participants will work together to reflect on the challenge and develop practical recommendations. The exchange will conclude with five key takeaways, highlighting how peer learning between cities can help strengthen and advance local climate adaptation.
