This year, BMFTR's Science-for-Action Evening will focus on ‘Information Integrity on Climate Change’. This includes providing reliable facts on climate change, building climate literacy in policymaking and society, and tackling mis- and disinformation. The UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement explicitly refer to the ‘best available science’ in several places. Nevertheless, scientific findings, researchers and institutions such as the IPCC are currently under increasing pressure, and research itself is becoming the subject of political debate. At the Science for Action Evening, researchers and scientific organisations, government representatives and parliamentarians, the media and civil society will discuss how they can collaborate effectively and complement one another to optimise climate communication and tackle disinformation, thereby strengthening science as the foundation for climate policy. Following a welcome address from the BMFTR, a panel will first provide an overview of various stakeholder groups' perspectives on the topic. Building on this, participants will then engage in discussion groups to explore in greater detail the needs and limitations of the stakeholders, as well as opportunities for collaboration and concrete measures. There will be further opportunity for open discussion over drinks and snacks.
